NF06 - a recap of the sets that stand out in my mind...
review of NF06 Friday/Saturday shows by ERIC of BURNING INDIAN

just rolled back into town....
couldn't stay for the sunday show.....which i'm sure is rippin hard
right
now.
really great people down in sac....thanks a TON for everything...
BILL.....LOB.....JIM.....JOHN....you guys rule. big time...

so i guess i'll give a recap of the sets that stand out in my mind...

Pump Kinn & Don
i had never heard of these two before.....but they played a really cool
set without the PA.....three practice amps....some effects boxes which
i
could see....and LOTS of microphone feedback...
a really good idea...

eraritjaritjaka
had some wicked sounds.....a lot heavier than the last time i saw him
play....no computer on stage.....a dj mixer with some processors....and
other shit....i think he played so well because someone (LOB) finally
pronounced "erarit-jarit-jaka" correctly when he was introduced.

I.N.R.I SLAYED!!!!!
scott threw down a super creep heavy drone set....looked like he was
messing with some cassette tapes....and he had his trusty hollow body
axe
of course shakin up a marshall half stack.

Tralphaz
dude is awesome......never seen him play before....
he totally killed.....knocked his mixer of the stage mid set...
then calmly plugged it back in and continued to convulse and shake...
he's on tour in the midwest.....you should go see him.

XOME
ruled.....of course he did......i love his style of spasmo
noise.....there
were about 10 times when i thought for sure that whole table of pedals
was
headed for the floor (or ceiling)
i took video of his entire set....

check it youtube style...

part 1

part 2

UFO as Bacteria
last minute addition....classic harsh noise sounds....with a super calm
stage presence.....seemed to really know what he was doing
got a chance to chat with him a bit.....i love a guy that drinks whisky
out of a paper bag then chases it with diet 7up.

+DOG+
violence and yelling.....the dude from "destroy date" (sorry forgot his
name) just about got his head chopped off by IDX1274.

Klowd
ok......john OWNED this festival in my eyes.....i got to hang with him
at
KDVS in for his set over the airwaves Thurs. night.....then he played
the
same kinda set saturday night....except on fucking steroids!!!!!!
i almost fell over more then once.....dude had me locked into that
contact-mic-spring-drone of his.....seriously.

Sleeping With the Earth
never heard this guy before......but he scared the shit out of me....
and i liked it....a lot.
great sounding harch blasts with really heavy chanting voice over
top....
oh yeah......and he had a light in front of him that created a 40 ft
tall
silouette.......like some crazy noise caveman or something.

Warning Broken Machine w/ Klowd
ok.....so this was BY FAR the best set that i saw....and one of the
best
15-20 minutes of experimental music i've ever heard.
these two guys should get a job doing like music therapy or something.
i definetly would have fallen over during this set had i not been
sitting
down.....HUGE LOW warm tones with don poking and proding with a light
theremin and a bunch of other shit......klowd sat cross legged on the
floor like a freakin amature but i forgive him for that because they
were
making an absolutley beautiful collage of tones....
THANK YOU JOHN AND DON....

C.J. Raven Borosque
dudes......this chick slays......BIG TIME.
super calm (seemingly) and patient approach to balistic noise....
really cool.....

after her set=

me: "that was great....you were amazing"

(looking over her pedals)
her: "yeah....i don't know what any of this shit is does..."

IDX1274 (w/ joe from Burning Indian)
these two should totally play together again....
really played well off each other well in a sonic sense...
plus they both have napy long hair and and a freakish admiration for
all
things ZAPPA...joe i guess you gotta get yourself a wrestling mask.

KoMoTo trio
really cool diverse 2/3 acoustic set.....
these three communicate with each other amazingly....especially the
lady
and the guy with the percussion.....all three of them really had there
ears open and it made for an incredibly musical and original set.

lots of other great acts....but what the hell....i'm not gonna sit here
and type all day long.....
it was great to see all the PNW crew again....and really cool to meet
lots
of other folks from Cali.
